Monday's Breakfast - Expired Crescent Rolls
Mondays, in general, can be tough. We put the trash out on Mondays so therefore it is also the weekly sweep of the fridge. Anything moldy gets tossed and anything slightly questionable gets cooked up on Mondays. We don’t usually have much trash, but on occasion things do get lost in the back of the fridge for longer than they should :(.
This week, we found this can of “expired” Pillsbury crescents. (I should mention that we actually popped it open, it would have been trashed if we found it in the condition shown.)

Opening this “expired” crescent roll can, we could see that the dough was ever so slightly softer and puffier than cans opened prior to their eatbydate (see additional info below). It was also slightly stickier, but we un-rolled the package anyways and proceeded to press a slice of white cheddar cheese and then a thin slice of deli ham onto each section of dough and then roll them all up to make ham and cheese crescents. We did this on Monday – May 2, 2016.
Nothing “expired” about these crescents! Baked as usual for about 10 minutes, they looked and tasted as they usually would and they all disappeared quickly.

Note: You will notice
that we recommend 1-2 weeks beyond a
best-by date
for refrigerated dough rolls, this is pretty
standard to get the absolute best taste and quality
from refrigerated dough products. Although many
products will begin to break down after this point,
many do remain strong for a longer period of time as
witnessed with this can of
“expired” crescent rolls.
