- Let one stick of butter reach room temperature (or 1/2 Cup homemade butter).
- Chop the fresh herbs (make sure you’ve dried them well after washing – you don’t want any excess water).
- Mix the butter and the herbs together with a heavy spoon. That’s it!
Herb butter can be wrapped in plastic wrap and rolled into a log, served in a bowl or pressed into molds. Silicone butter molds (see below for ordering) can be found for most any occasion and are an easy way to add a little extra theme to your dinner party. To use these molds, simply press some soft herb butter into the mold with a butter knife and then pop the mold into the freezer for just a few minutes. Keep re-loading and popping until you have the desired number of butter pads. They can be made ahead and then be stored covered in the fridge until ready to use, they will soften again when served. It’s fun to do and to serve.
How long does herb butter last? The moist butter will keep your herbs green and flavorful for a few weeks if they are sealed airtight and refrigerated.
