Irish Drinks to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day
There used to be a corner pub in town called McGhan’s, it was pretty much a dive for 364 days a year, but on St. Patricks Day that little place really came alive! People drove from miles around to be “Irish for a day” and the regulars showed up in full force to celebrate, it was a always a party to remember. If you’re not lucky enough to have an Irish Pub in town, then you may want to concoct a little bit of green (and this time we’re not talking healthy) for a St. Patrick’s Day drink celebration at home.
So, cook up some corned beef cabbage and maybe a little Irish Soda bread and then add one of these featured drinks and become “Irish for the day”, even if you’re not going out. This St. Patricks day drink collection includes not only some traditional Irish drinks, but also mint drinks and cocktails made with a green liquor.

Irish Drinks
Name | Flavor | Recipe | |
---|---|---|---|
Shamrock Shake | Mint Flavor – drive through McDonald’s anytime in March or make one at home. | Simply blend 2 large scoops of ice cream, 1 cup of milk, 4 drops of green food coloring and 1/4 tsp of Mint extract for every large size milkshake you desire. | |
Green Beer | Beer – a true pub classic | To make one at home, just add 1-2 drops of green food coloring into a mug and then pour in your beer. This actually works best for a pitcher – add 6-8 drops of green food coloring into a pitcher and then fill with your favorite beer. Serve chilled. | |
Irish Mint | Mint – this may not sound very good, but you just might find it quite soothing. | To make an Irish Mint just fill a glass with ice cubes then add 2 shots of Baileys Irish Cream Liquor, 1 shot Creme de Menthe and 3 shots of Milk. | |
Creme De Menthe | An after dinner drink – mint has always been a soothing digestive. | Drink it straight up or on the rocks. Try adding a little half and half or a splash of fresh cream to the top of the liquor for a thick, creamy and less potent shot. | |
Irish Coffee | Hot coffee with added whiskey heat & creamy goodness. | St. Patrick’s Day is a perfect day to add Baileys Irish Cream to your coffee, along with a squirt of whipped cream for good measure. That’s the oversimplified recipe, check here for instructions to make the real deal. | |
Irish Car Bomb | This drink is serious, although it tastes rather innocent (like chocolate). Be careful, it must be chugged as soon as assembled or the cream will curdle. |
1/2 oz. Bailey’s Irish Cream, 1/2 oz.
Irish whiskey, 1/2 pint of Guinness beer. Pour the Guinness into a sturdy highball glass. Pour the Bailey’s and whiskey into the same shot glass. Drop the shot into the Guinness and chug! |

Irish Flag | Interesting |
1 oz. Creme de Menthe, 1 ounce of Green
Curacao, 1 oz. Bailey’s Cream, 1 oz.
Grand Marnier Pour the ingredients, in order listed, slowly into a small glass. Pour the second 2 liquids slowly over the back of a spoon which you’ve angled over the glass in order to keep the new layer from penetrating the lower layers. |

TY-KU | Citrus flavor. Actually a low calorie Asian liquor – but it’s green! | A beautiful display of green drinks & recipes are shown on the Ty-Ku website. |
